Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad

Black History Month – Harriet Tubman
"Harriet Tubman is possibly, for me, one of the most inspiring African American women in history. In fact, she is perhaps the most amazing person, to my mind. Her efforts to help get slaves out of the southern states, at great risk of her own, amazes me. She truly is an American hero." - Galen Scott

Harriet Tubman was a Black woman who daringly escaped slavery and helped hundreds of other enslaved people escape to freedom. She became the most famous of all "conductors" of the Underground Railroad, a system of safe houses that enslaved people used to travel to freedom in the North. Her inspiring work continued after slavery was abolished, as she worked for the aid and education of formerly enslaved people, as well as for women's right to vote.

Harriet Tubman - They Called Her Moses

Harriet Tubman (1822-1913) was the most prolific “conductor” on the Underground Railroad, assisting hundreds of slaves to escape bondage and to find freedom in the northern United States and Canada. Her work succeeded due to her reliance upon God and her constant prayer for his guidance. She earned the name “Moses” because she led so many of her fellow African Americans to freedom in the “promised land.” - Dr. Rex Butler
Harriet Tubman Day is an American holiday in honor of the anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman, observed on March 10, and in the U.S. state of New York. Observances also occur locally around the U.S. state of Maryland. - Wikipedia
