Warning! This is a fire zone
we need to be prepared
For when we light those candles
please take that extra care.
There's far too many really
and it sure can give a fright
To realise just how quickly
a cake melts by candlelight!
With the weight of all those candles
represented here
And growing vast proportions
to accommodate each year;
Baked beyond the magnitude
dimensions high and wide
Just to take those candles
whose age one cannot hide!
But alas, the ample number
that could light up alone
An entire street and suburb
without burning down the home!
Neighbours alert the fire brigade
when they spot clouds of smoke
Billowing from the rooftops
alarming many folks!
Sirens come a-sounding
with flashing lights and all
As they pull out their hoses
and smash down the door;
To find a family gathered
by glowing candlelight
Singing "Happy Birthday"
to an old dear with delight.
Surprise upon their faces
to see the fire brigade
Standing in their kitchen
ready to hose the cake;
But with kind understanding
they pause to let them know
Next year just mark each decade
before this is a fire zone!
